Early planning taking shape

On January 22nd, the Campus Committee continued early planning work with our consulting teams.

A very preliminary review of financial assumptions has been completed, focused on residential building size and the amount of commercial space on the site. While this work is still early, it’s helping narrow options based on financial feasibility. One emerging direction is to include residential uses on the south lot.

In parallel, work has continued on how space could be organized within the church expansion to better support ministry, operations, and long-term flexibility. These discussions include considerations around gym space, a larger and more functional kitchen, and a chapel that is clearly visible and accessible. Planning is also focused on improving the campus presence along 199 Street, expanding children’s ministry space, and improving circulation throughout the main building and sanctuary.

We're exploring how development could be phased in a way that allows ministry to continue with minimal disruption during construction.

Next steps include presenting early concepts to staff to gather input from ministry and operational perspectives, including facility rentals, the daycare tenant, and other community uses. Planning is also underway for a vision trip to the Vancouver area to visit other churches that are thinking creatively about development. Preliminary geotechnical and environmental studies will also be initiated to better understand site conditions and inform future phases.

prayer items

  • Wisdom and discernment: Pray for clarity as early planning decisions are refined, that next steps would be thoughtful, well-timed, and aligned with a Church First vision.

  • Faithfulness to ministry needs: Pray that space planning would serve current and future ministry needs well, supporting people, relationships, and the life of the church.

  • Stewardship and preparation: Pray for wisdom as financial assumptions, site conditions, and technical studies are explored, that this season would lay a strong and responsible foundation for what comes next.
